Jerash – a touch of Latin and Greek in Jordan

In the land of deserts and date palms, you do not expect to find traces of the Greek and Roman empires, leave alone an entire city. But in Jordan you do.

LAKSHMI SHARATH visits the ruins of the ancient city of Greco-Roman city of Gerasa, also referred to as Antioch on the Golden River. Today, known as Jerash and located in modern-day Jordan, it is fringed by olive groves. Yet, she discovers, it’s still very Greek and Latin to her.
