Photos From Nirvana's First Show Uncovered by Seattle Teenager
This year’s Courtney Love-authorized Kurt Cobain doc Montage of Heck unearthed a bounty of Nirvana artifacts, but a Seattle teenager found something even director Brett Morgen missed. Nineteen-year-old Maggie Poukkula unearthed photos of Nirvana’s first show last week and shared them via Twitter.

Her dad, Tony Poukkula, was a friend of Kurt’s and hosted Nirvana’s first show in his basement at 17 Nussbaum Road in Raymond, Wash. This was back in 1987, when Nirvana’s lineup featured Cobain, bassist Krist Novoselic, and drummer Aaron Burckhard. Poukkula joined them on acoustic guitar for a couple Led Zeppelin covers.

The younger Poukkula told Rolling Stone that she found the photos tucked inside some of her father’s books. “I had no idea that those were during Nirvana’s first concert,” Poukkula said. “My dad showed me them a while back, but he never mentioned that’s what was going on in the photos. I found out because of all the articles. I didn’t realize it was such a historical thing. I thought they were just cool pictures of my dad and Kurt jamming together.”
And hey, historic photos can still be cool.
So in other words, if you’ve got photos of some buzz band lying around in your Facebook feed from five years ago… nah, go ahead and delete them.
