Music imitates life when it comes to PARTYNEXTDOOR, as the mysterious and ultra-private star won't be caught out unless you -- to paraphrase his biggest hit -- "come and see him." However, he made an exception dropping by North Carolina's Power 98 FM station ahead of his performance Sunday night at the Fillmore in Charlotte to give listeners a glimpse into his life.
Not fully dishing about Rihanna, PARTYNEXTDOOR commented on how he came to write the singer's chart-topping "Work" and the Anti bonus track "Sex With Me". He started by saying, "She let me into her house, literally. It was a working environment. She told me a few stories, I like interviewed her and I wrote a few songs for her."
When asked if it's easier to write for men or women he responded saying, "It's the same process," before noting, "I say it's easier to write for other people than write for myself."
PARTYNEXTDOOR also shared that him and Jeremih operate on the same wave, noting, "our energies are similar." He also debunked any notion of competition or tension between the two saying, "I'm just glad we could coexist amongst each other as R&B artists." Although he didn't confirm whether a joint project was forthcoming, he did admit both were working in the studio together.
Unlike most artists who have been tainted by the industry PARTYNEXTDOOR noted how his squad with Drake's OVO label keeps him from being caught in the fray: "I would like say being in OVO. They kind of protect me from the industry."
He also confirmed what the public already knew, which is he's not about the drama and all about the music saying, "I'm literally am home making my own music unless I'm asked to be in somebody's house writing music for them."
