The Nickelodeon Group has promoted Shelly Sumpter Gillyard to executive VP, talent, music and events. A 19-year Nickelodeon veteran, Sumpter Gillyard formerly served as senior VP of talent. In her new role, she will oversee all talent relations across live TV events, music and live-action programming for all the Nickelodeon brands.
Based in Nickelodeon's Burbank, Calif. offices, Sumpter Gillyard works with such tent-pole events as the Kids' Choice Awards, Kids' Choice Sports and Nickelodeon HALO Awards. Over the course of these shows' runs, she has assembled a lineup of celebrity hosts and talent that has included Blake Shelton, Justin Timberlake, Nick Jonas, Will Smith, Kobe Bryant, Michael Strahan, Jason Derulo, Hailee Steinfeld, Alessia Cara and Daya.
Additionally, Sumpter Gillyard works with such live action series as Henry Danger, Game Shakers, The Thundermans and Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn.
Sumpter Gillyard initially joined the Nickelodeon talent department as a manager in 1997. Prior to that, she was director of publicity for The Steve Rifkind Company and an account executive at Cathcart Public Relations, where she managed accounts for MCA, Loud Records, Columbia Records and Nickelodeon, among other companies.
Sumpter Gillyard will continue to report to Nickelodeon Group president Cyma Zarghami.
