Nickelback Addresses Michael Brown Case on Political Anthem ‘Edge of a Revolution’

Canadian-born Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger was taking a keen look at American politics, and especially the reports about the death of Michael Brown, as he and his bandmates worked on their new album No Fixed Address. The media saturation regarding the unarmed 18-year-old black man, who was shot and killed by Officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Missouri on Aug. 9, compelled Kroeger to write his most political song to date, “Edge of a Revolution.”

"The issue of the black boy who was shot by the white cop in Missouri was a major story and there was rioting like crazy," Kroeger tells Yahoo Music. "This was all happening right when we were working on the music. It definitely seemed like the seeds of revolution were being planted, and I wanted it to feel that way in the song."

A grand jury ruling in the Ferguson case could come down as early as Friday, in which case the public will find out the verdict on Sunday, since the court is expected to give police 48 hours advance notice before making the decision public in order to properly prepare for any civil unrest.

Local and national politicians have urged the public to keep any public protests that follow the verdict peaceful, regardless of the outcome.
