Earlier this week, Jim James and My Morning Jacket helped launch the Global Citizen Tickets Initiative, a world hunger and social awareness program that allows fans to enter a lottery for two donated tickets at each participating artists' shows for the next three years. As part of the program, James also passed his track "A New Life" (from his solo debut Regions of Light and Sound of God) over to tUnE-yArDs' Merrill Garbus for a remix.
Though the original built slowly, with a sparse acoustic intro that climbed to string-laden cinematic heights, Garbus turns the song into a busy rhythmic duet full of her project's signature clattering percussion and chants.
The Global Citizen Tickets Initiative includes artists such as James, Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Neil Young, Beyoncé and Kanye West donating two tickets to each of their shows over the next three years. Fans can earn points – one for sharing a Facebook video dealing with extreme poverty, 20 for raising $20 or more for a participating charity – and apply them towards a ticket lottery. Fans can grab this remix of "A New Life" by sharing the Facebook video tomorrow. For more information, visit the Global Citizen website.
