They may have some fresh material in store, but De La Soul stuck to the classics last night on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. Backed up by the Roots, the trio took the stage to perform "Jenifa Taught Me," the second single off their 1989 debut Three Feet High and Rising.
In April, nearly a decade after their last album, The Grind Date, was released, De La Soul issued the first in what they said will be a series of monthly singles. "Get Away (feat. the spirit of Wu-Tang)" and the forthcoming tracks will be included on a new record due out in late fall called You're Welcome. In an interview with Rolling Stone last month, De La Soul's DJ talked about their long gap in recording. "It's long overdue," Maseo said, laughing. "Trust me, man, it disgusts me how long it takes for us to make a record."
The group will be hitting Brooklyn on Sunday for the Great Googa Mooga festival, and will be touring this summer with Ice Cube, Public Enemy and LL Cool Jay on the Kings of the Mic Tour.
