Chris Smith was struck deeply by the death of his Kris Kross partner Chris Kelly earlier this week, and the rapper continues to mourn the death of his bandmate. "Chris Kelly was my Best Friend," Smith said in a statement, as reported by E! Online. "He was like a brother. I love him and will miss him dearly."
"Our friendship began as little boys in first grade. We grew up together. It was a blessing to achieve the success, travel the world and entertain Kris Kross fans all around the world with my best friend," Smith continued. "It is what we wanted to do and what brought us happiness. I will always cherish the memories of the C-Connection."
He finished with a shoutout to their nicknames, writing, "KRIS KROSS FOREVER, the 'MAC DADDY' and 'DADDY MAC.'"
Kelly was found unresponsive on May 1st in his home and taken to Atlanta Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He was 34. Police are investigating his death as a drug overdose, and an autopsy was conducted yesterday. Toxicology results, however, will take several weeks.
