Britney Spears and L.A. Reid are out, but Demi Lovato is returning for the third season of The X Factor. Lovato will rejoin creator Simon Cowell on the judges' panel this fall, the show announced today. "She's a superstar in her own right and was a fantastic mentor last year," Cowell said in a press release. "Even though she can be really, really annoying – I truly enjoyed working with her and so did the artists."
Former judges Spears and Reid departed after last season, which country singer Tate Stevens won. Spears was rumored to be pushed out for being too "boring," though she said it was the right time for her to "get back in the studio." Reid elected to focus on his day job as chairman of Epic Records.
Stevens will release his debut album in April. The X Factor's third season will begin this fall.
