'Batman v Superman' Final Trailer Proves Caped Crusader Can Hold His Own Against Man of Steel, But Wonder Woman Rules

The final Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer has arrived and it gives us more of an inkling of why Batman is v-ing Superman, while also showing us Lex Luthor oozing evil and revealing more of Wonder Woman’s devastating power.

Clocking in at two minutes, the clip begins with a Bat-centric focus. We get our first good look at Ben Affleck’s Caped Crusader delivering his special brand of crime-fighting, taking out two dozen hostiles single-handedly.

But this Batman is a bit more creaky than previous cinematic versions, confiding to Alfred (Jeremy Irons), “I’m getting slow in my old age.” To which the British butler retorts, “Even you got too old to die young — not for lack of trying.”

From there, we get more some background on why exactly Bruce Wayne is concerned about Superman (Henry Cavill). “He has the power to wipe out the entire human race,” Bruce tells Alfred against scenes of the carnage from Man of Steel and the collateral damage suffered by the cities of Gotham and Metropolis. (The Batman v Superman Twitter feed also posted the below image yesterday showing how the Superman-Zod battle personally affected Bruce Wayne.)

“If we believe there’s even a 1 percent chance that he is our enemy,” Wayne continues, “we have to take it as an absolute certainty.”

There you have it. Batman sees Superman as an existential alien threat. Something that Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) is happy to exploit to his nefarious ends.

“The greatest gladiator match in the history of the world,” he tells a horrified Lois Lane (Amy Adams). “God vs. man. Day vs. night.”

After additional scenes of Kryptonian on Bat action, the third member of DC’s superhero trinity arrives to put playboy Bruce Wayne in his place. “I’ve known a few women like you,” Bruce whispers seductively into the ear of the breathtaking Diana Prince (Gal Gadot), without a clue to her Amazonian alter ego.

“No,” she replies. “I don’t think you’ve ever known a woman like me.” (Who knew that zingers were one of her superpowers?) Cue a shot of the kick-ass Wonder Woman in action.

We also get snippets from Clark Kent’s life, including him and Lois sharing some giggles in a bathtub.

This clip dials back on the Doomsday — the previous trailer’s inclusion of the nearly omnipotent alien killing machine left many fans howling about director Zack Snyder giving away too much of the plot. However, there are brief images teasing the arrival of Darkseid — that’s his Omega symbol singed into the ground; plus we see additional shots of his advanced troops, the parademons.

Darkseid is the DC Universe big bad who figures to tangle with the Justice League in the upcoming team-up movie.

For a kicker, we see how surprisingly evenly matched Batman and Superman are when the do square off. While Superman has no problem peeling off the top of the Batmobile like a tin can, or giving the Caped Crusader a good push, there’s something about Batman’s new armored suit (Kryptonite, perhaps?) that is able to counter the Man of Steel’s blows — to Superman’s obvious surprise.

Who will win? The age-old question will get answered when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters March 25.
