NBC Better Have Her Money! Rihanna Is the New 'Voice' Advisor

Following last month’s news that Missy Elliott, John Fogerty, Brad Paisley, and Selena Gomez will individually mentor teams during the Battle Rounds of this forthcoming ninth season of The Voice, it has now been revealed that Rihanna will be a multi-team advisor during the Knockout Rounds.

It’s an interesting choice. Rihanna isn’t exactly the warmest personality – it’s easy to imagine her being rather intimidating and standoffish in the rehearsal room – and she’s not necessarily known for being a technically amazing singer. Additionally, The Voice is a family-friendly show, and Rihanna isn’t exactly a PG celebrity, as anyone who’s seen her flesh-filled “badgalriri” Instagram, her lapdance-themed music video for “Pour It Up,” or her recent bloody, snuff-film-like, totally NSFW video for “Bitch Better Have My Money” can attest.

However, Rihanna is about as A-list as it gets, so her recruitment is another coup for the most popular (and edgiest) talent show on television. Rihanna will be taking on a prestigious role previously filled by Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Taylor Swift, and Nate Ruess, frontman for Grammy darlings fun.

The Voice Season 9, with coaches Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Gwen Stefani, and Pharrell Williams, returns to NBC on Sept. 21.
