Music Video Premiere: See 'Voice' Champ Jordan Smith 'Stand in the Light'
Jordan Smith, the most iTunes-dominating, frontrunning winner of the past nine Voice seasons, is about to release his debut album, Something Beautiful, on March 18. (This will be the quickest post-show album release for any Voice contestant ever.)
While it remains to be seen if he can replicate his iTunes success with original material, he seems to be in a good place, as the album’s anthemic kickoff single “Stand in the Light,” produced by Grammy/Oscar nominee Stephan Moccio (the Weeknd, Ellie Goulding, Sarah Brightman, Josh Groban, Miley Cyrus) is already earning kudos for its message of self-acceptance and self-empowerment. And Yahoo Music’s Reality Rocks is excited to premiere the song’s inspirational music video today.
“The theater we shot in [Warner Grand Theater in San Pedro, Calif.] was a true gem; you could feel the history in the walls of the auditorium. I feel the video perfectly combines the emotional power of music and dance to reach beyond words and speak to your soul,” Smith tells Reality Rocks of the simple, heart-warming clip, which depicts two young dancers in love. “I am fortunate to have worked with [director] Matt Stawski and such an amazing team to bring the story of this song to life so beautifully.”
Smith’s debut album will feature a mix of originals like “Stand in the Light” as well as covers of beloved standards like “Over the Rainbow,” “You Are So Beautiful,” “Amazing Grace,” and even Voice coach Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful.” There’s definitely a common thread of hope here.
Late last year after his landslide Voice victory, Smith told Yahoo: “I want to keep doing music that inspires people; that’s such a part of what I did on the show, and I’m all about music that provokes emotions. I want to make music that people connect with. I think there are songs out there that when you hear them, they bring you back to a certain place. I want to make music like that. I think I’ve learned on the show just how powerful music can be, when it comes from your heart and means something to you.”
