After hoping to have their new album ready this month, MGMT have set September 17th as the release date for their third LP, MGMT. Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser returned to Tarbox Road Studios to collaborate with Dave Fridmann, who co-produced and mixed both 2008's Oracular Spectacular and 2010's Congratulations.
For the new album, the duo experimented with different in-studio writing processess, resulting in a 10-song collection that includes a cover of the 1960s song "Introspection" by Faine Jade and "Alien Days," which was released on Record Store Day in April.
The band is also preparing visual elements to accompany the album through what they're calling "the Optimizer": an enhanced package that will include video and CGI work by Andrew Benson, Emilio Gomariz, Geoffrey Lillemon and Chris Timms.
