Blistered Earth—a Metallica tribute band from Spokane, Washington—had all of their gear stolen after a show last Saturday in Portland. After listing all the instruments and gear that was nabbed, the band’s story got the attention of the media. Then, they got some help from an unexpected source—Metallica themselves.
“James [Hetfield] & the rest of the guys in Metallica (thanx guys) have seen fit to replace our equipment,” the band wrote on Facebook. A representative for Metallica confirmed the news to Pitchfork.
Shawn Murphy, a drummer in Blistered Earth, gave an interview about the incident. “It’s pretty awesome that they would do that,” he said. “It is fairly well documented that they had all of their gear stolen way back in the day, back when they didn’t have money to replace their gear, so they have first hand knowledge of how s***ty this feels.”
