Merry PTXmas! Pentatonix Gets Festive at Yahoo

During their run on the a cappella talent show The Sing-Off in 2011, Pentatonix (Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying, Avi Kaplan, Kirstie Maldonado, and Kevin Olusola) placed no fewer than 11 songs in the top 10 Soundtracks chart on iTunes. After their win, their YouTube channel went on to rack up tens of millions of views and their debut CD, PTX Vol. 1, entered the Billboard 200 at number 14 and the iTunes Pop chart at number one. It’s arguably Pentatonix’s rampant popularity, along with the success of the film Pitch Perfect, that led to NBC’s decision to revive the once-canceled Sing-Off, which returns as a one-night special with new judge Patrick Stump on Dec. 17.

Now the vocal sensations have picked up a Grammy nomination for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella, and have landed the highest-charting holiday album by a duo or group since 1962 with their second seasonal release, That’s Christmas to Me. So to celebrate, we’re unwrapping this vintage Yahoo performance of the Christmas classic “Angels We Have Heard on High” and their PTX Vol. II original “Love Again” live in the Yahoo studio. Plus, hear them talk about their journey from talent-show contestants to YouTube sensations to bona fide pop stars!
