Mariah Carey has talked for the first time about her split with fiancé James Packer.
The multiple Grammy winning pop superstar appeared uncomfortable when Ellen DeGeneres dropped the question on Wednesday's episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
The 46-year-old singer is promoting her new E! docu-series Mariah's World, in which she reportedly tries on wedding dresses and Packer, the billionaire Australian casino owner, allegedly makes an appearance.
When asked how she was doing mentally, Carey appeared cagey. "I think I'm doing well. How are you doing?" She continued, "Everything happens for a reason…things are the way they are."
But there was no way to swerve the split, Carey admitted. "Now it's a whole friggin' thing," she said.
When Carey said Packer "allegedly" appeared in the show, DeGeneres shot back that Parker was indeed in the program. She'd seen it. The comment hit a raw nerve with Carey who moved the conversation swiftly on.
"It's kind of difficult to talk about it at the moment. So I'm just going to compliment you on these decorations once again because they are fabulous and I'm here…"
Carey and Packer got engaged in New York in January after a six-month romance.
Mariah's World premieres Dec. 4.
