London MC Koder Draws Inspiration From Skepta on the Hypnotic “Zone Again”

South London MC Koder had been waiting for the perfect moment to release “Zone Again.” In fact, as he explains to us, he had been waiting to meet Skepta, who is sampled in the production, and play him the track before releasing it.

“I had the song for a while but I was adamant that I would not release it until I had met Skepta and played it to him, but as you know he is not just a person you bump into! A few months after I recorded the song, Novelist invited me to his birthday set and Skepta was there.”

“It was the first time we had met but he said to me he remembered me from Lord of the Mics so we got speaking and I said, “Skep listen to this.” I loaded up ‘Zone Again’ on my phone and played it to him and his reaction was crazy. He was like, ‘This is sick! What are you doing with it?’ I told him I’d been waiting to meet him to put it out he replied, ‘You have my full blessings.’ That’s the story in a nut shell.”

One listen, and you will understand why Skepta reacted that way. Koder’s wordplay is on point, the hint of melody in the hook is memorable, and BlameBlame’s eerie beat is hypnotic. Pair that with the simple but effective video, premiering above, and you have an impressive package.

You can see Koder spitting in the cypher at Novelist’s birthday here. Buy “Zone Again” on iTunes here.
