As promised by the name of the new 30 Days, 30 Songs series -- organized to release a new anti-Trump song every day leading up to the election -- five songs have surfaced since the project was announed on Monday (Oct. 10). The first came from Death Cab For Cutie, in which the members dissed the Republican presidential candidate in a track called "Million Dollar Loan," and subsequent entries have come from Aimee Mann, Bhi Bhiman and Jim James.
Today (Oct. 14), the fifth track has arrived, courtesy of Franz Ferdinand, the first non-American group to contribute. The fact that they can't vote may contribute to the unapologetically blunt lyrics to the song they titled "Demagogue."
"Demagogue" pulls no lyrical punches; somewhat literally, as frontman Alex Kapranos actually sings, "He's a demagogue you'd like to punch in the face." Elsewhere, the song speaks of Trump's "tiny vulgar fingers on the nuclear bomb," and references some quotes from Trump himself -- take a guess which -- on the subject of women.
Give the now-trio's funky, vibraslapping protest anthem a listen below.
