When you put Everything of yourself into your highly-personal and emotional concept album, it can be a little intimidating come remix time, but Lido couldn't have been more pleased with the results. Truly, he can't wait to add the nine new sounds of his Everything remix release to his ever-evolving live show.
"It was scary at first because of how emotional this album is to me," Lido tells Billboard, "but I was confident in the abilities of everyone involved and pleased to experience that I was nervous for no reason … It's brought a fresh perspective on my music to me and have reinforced my plan to do a lot of collaborative projects in 2017, including some of the artists on this package."
It opens with two takes on "Angel," a big future house rinse from Jaykode and a cool, beat-forward, glitched-out version from Dan Farber. "Crazy" gets the run around from Lido's very close friends Brasstracks and Alison Wonderland. "Citi Bike" is turned into a mean urban jungle by Umru and a stripped-down take from Melf. Minnesota gets so jazzy R&B on "So Cold," and Mossy closes with a dreamy, sexy vibe on "Dye."
"To me, it's a flattering thing when anyone feels inspired to take part in my vision and the journey of one of my songs," Lido says. "I will always encourage and appreciate any creative that wants to take my art to a different place, no matter who you are or what music you make. Music is synergy, and I hope we are moving into a time where it will be easier legally and socially for artists to be inspired and reinterpret music freely. Remixes are not tools, they are art-pieces just as much as original music and I hope that the culture will soon get the respect it deserves."
