Leslie Jones Emotionally Thanks Whoopi Goldberg For Serving As An Inspiration In Hollywood
Leslie Jones is on cloud nine right now given the successful release of her latest flick, Ghostbusters. The Saturday Night Live comedian has appeared on magazine covers to recently The View to promote the reboot of the 1984 motion picture, originally directed by Ivan Reitman.
Jones’ rise in Hollywood has been a long journey, but part of that motivation to keep going was partly in thanks to Whoopi Goldberg. During her sit-down, the Tennessee native tried her best not to unleash the waterworks when she recounted the day she saw the award-winning actress on television in Whoopi Goldberg: Direct from Broadway.
“When I was young, my dad always let me listen to comedy albums and I always loved comedy. The day that I saw Whoopi Goldberg on television I cried so hard because I kept looking at my daddy like, ‘Oh my God! There’s somebody on TV that looks like me! She looks like me! Daddy I could be on TV! I can do it!'”
The 48-year-old entertainer later continued to state that the torch has been passed down from Goldberg to her in order to inspire another generation of comedians.
“I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart because now I know what I’m doing, that when I put on that Ghostbusters suit and little girls see me on TV now, now they’re going to go, ‘I can do it!'” Jones exclaimed. “You gave that to me, and I love you from my heart, from my soul. I love you for what you’ve done for black women, and what you’ve done for black comedians.”
