Led Zeppelin's New Interactive Video Lets You Explore the 'Physical Graffiti' Building

Just when you thought you’d have to wait for a reissue of Presence for the next surprise from the Led Zeppelin camp comes the video for “Brandy & Coke,” the rough mix of “Trampled Under Foot,” one of the highlight tracks from the recently reissued landmark double-album Physical Graffiti.

It’s not just a mere video, however, but a new interactive clip that takes viewers inside the iconic New York building featured on the cover of the album. The video, made by Interlude — the same folks that did that mind-blowing interactive clip for Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone” a few years back — allows viewers to go inside the building featured on the album’s die-cut cover by selecting one of 16 windows. From there, you can follow characters from virtual room to room without interrupting the playback of the song. Once inside, you’ll find vintage footage of the band performing the song at Earl’s Court, original animation pieces, and much more.

For example, in one window, you can catch a group of youngsters gathered around a TV grooving to Led Zeppelin. Another takes you into a movie theater where the song’s lyrics are featured on the big screen. A third allows you to spy on a mod couple who share a banana. A fourth window lets you spy on a teenage girl who gets down to the song’s infectious groove in a kitchen while sporting a baseball shirt, gym shorts, and tube socks. We can go on and on, but we thought we’d leave some surprises for you to experience firsthand.

Physical Graffiti, regarded by some to be the band’s crowning achievement, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. It’s been certified 16-times platinum in the U.S. and is considered by many one of the greatest double-albums of all time, alongside the Beatles’ White Album and other such classics.

For another taste of Physical Graffiti, pick up the April issue of British music magazine Mojo, which includes the cover-mounted CD Physical Graffiti Redrawn, featuring White Denim, Blackberry Smoke, Sun Kil Moon, Kitty, Daisy & Lewis, and others covering the album’s iconic tracks.
