After winning the Latin Grammy for best new artist in 2014, Mariana Vega has kept busy touring Latin America and working on her forthcoming album. She also just performed for the first time ever at this year's South by Southwest.
"I've always wanted to go to SXSW to watch other showcases but also play, and this time I got to do both of those things. The vibe of the whole city is just great. I also met up with a few friends from Venezuela who were also performing there and jumped onstage with a few. It was so much fun and amazing," she tells Billboard's Latin Connection Podcast.
The singer/songwriter, who recently premiered the music video for her new single "La marea," is working on a new album alongside Latin Grammy-winning producer Julio Reyes Copello. The new set will follow her 2013 LP Mi Burbuja.
"Julio has definitely taken me out of my comfort zone, which I really needed. I needed to explore new sounds and he's been taking me there," Vega says.
Vega also talks about learning to collaborate with other artists and forthcoming new singles in the latest episode of the Latin Connection Podcast, which you can listen to above.
