Antonio "L.A." Reid has been tapped as a keynote speaker for the 2017 edition of the Midem trade fair in Cannes, France. The 2017 conference will take place June 6-9 with an overriding theme, "A new golden age for the music industry? Get ready to embrace it."
Reid, the co-founder of Atlanta's LaFace Records (with Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds) and one-time Arista Records chief and X Factor judge, is one of the most recognizable faces in the U.S. record biz. He's guided the careers of some of the world's biggest stars, from Usher to Pink, Justin Bieber, Meghan Trainor and Mariah Carey, plus many more.
The Epic Records chairman and CEO this year recounted some of his tales in his memoir, Sing to Me: My Story of Making Music, Finding Magic, and Searching for Who's Next. There's more stories to share with delegates in the south of France, he says.
"I'm thrilled to be back at Midem after being a member of the Midem Artist Accelerator artistic committee in 2015, and I'm excited at the prospect of sharing the experience of more than 25 years in the music business with the Midem audience," Reid says in a statement.
"It's also a chance to look to the future," he adds, "as Midem highlights this year the immense opportunities brought by the development of streaming in today's global music marketplace, thus creating a New Golden Era for the music industry to thrive."
The annual Midem confab this year celebrated its 50th anniversary. For more information on the 2017 show, visit Midem.com.
