Fresh off of dropping her latest Migos-featuring single "Bon Appétit," Katy Perry surprised fans in New York's Times Square on Friday (April 28) by handing out cherry pies from a food truck.
Before her arrival, the singer tweeted the song's lyric ("Open 24") alongside a photo of a food truck embellished with cherries and the phrase "World's Best Cherry Pie."

At the truck's location -- positioned next to an American Eagle Outfitters and a few feet away from the red TKTS stairs -- Perry's disco-infused trap-pop jam blared on speakers in a repeated loop. Fans lined up on both sides of the truck taking pictures, with those in the left line lucky enough to get a taste of the cherry pies baked by Sweetery NYC. The singer stuck around for a bit to personally give a few lucky fans the pies and pose for pictures. She even shouted out a baby in the midst of the crowd, instructing the caretaker to keep him raised like Simba from The Lion King.
Perry embraced her cheering KatyCats -- a few of them noticeably bopping along to the song, having the lyrics memorized in less than 24 hours -- and acknowledged that she was "getting that promo" for her new single. This marketing strategy served as another unique promotion for the star's "Purposeful Pop" era, and an extension of what she's already been doing for "Bon Appétit." While unveiling lead single "Chained to the Rhythm," Perry left headphone-attached discos balls playing the tune around various cities. The idea helped "Rhythm" debut at its peak position of No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 back in February.
