Because there aren’t enough crazy memes and conspiracy theories surrounding the 2016 election, let’s add one more to the list: Ted Cruz is a metal rock star. This week’s hottest viral rumor making the rounds is that the Texas Senator and GOP presidential candidate is the lead singer of Christian metal band Stryper.
For this, we can thank Twitter – specifically, author Michael Boulerice, who pointed out the uncanny physical resemblance between Cruz and Stryper vocalist Michael Sweet in a post last week.

Naturally, the Internet caught on and soon the idea that Ted Cruz fronts a metal band was a social media top trender.

The real Styper frontman, Michael Sweet, initially played along, joking that he would be trading music for politics.

However, he soon was forced to flat-out deny that he and Ted Cruz are the same person. He DID tell Billboard: “I do hope Ted is a Stryper fan and that he comes out to a show this year on tour. Maybe I’ll have him up for a song so we can put this whole thing to rest.”
Sweet - who also sang and played guitar for Boston at one point in his career – joked on CNN that until this, he mostly got compared to Boy George and Billy Ray Cyrus.
Cruz’s reps, however, have not yet commented on this matter.
Hey, anything to deter those the Zodiac Killer rumors…..
