Is Taylor Swift In X-Men: Apocalypse As Dazzler?

Seems we may have reason to believe that Taylor Swift will appear in the upcoming ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’… as one of the most notorious X-Men characters of them all.

Yes, who better than one of the reigning queens of pop music to take on the role of Dazzler, the disco mutant?

While Swift’s appearance in the film has by no means been officially confirmed, Collider argues that we have some grounds on which to suspect that she will indeed be in there in some capacity.

For starters, last summer ‘X-Men’ producer and screenwriter Simon Kinberg shared a photograph on Twitter of himself with Swift and ‘Apocalypse’ actors James McAvoy and Sophie Turner.

While nothing about this photo suggested it was taken on set, ‘Apocalypse’ was in production at the time, and it was certainly enough to imply that Swift may have had some involvement in the film.

More recently, an image from the film shared online by Sophie Turner confirms that Dazzler is part of the ‘X-Men’ movieverse.

We see Tye Sheridan’s Cyclops in a record store holding up a Dazzler album - and though it’s impossible to confirm who that is on the cover, Turner’s caption would appear to be a not-so subtle hint at a Taylor Swift connection.

Turner tweeted, “#FBF that time Cyclops and I went shopping at the mall and found our favorite singer’s album (pre 1989, of course)”

Even an old fuddy-duddy like myself can gauge that this is a nod to Swift’s big-selling 2014 album ‘1989.’

For those who don’t know, Dazzler is a mutant pop star, noted for her glittery get-up, Kiss-style make-up and high-heeled roller skates, who has the ability to generate light from her body.

The character was introduced in 1980 in the hopes of being a multi-platform property through which Marvel could break through into other mediums; an album and a big screen musical were planned, but neither came to pass.

If the character is indeed coming to the screen, casting Swift would certainly make sense. Still, we shouldn’t necessarily swallow this completely, as the makers of the ‘X-Men’ movies have joked about Dazzler joining the series before.

On April Fool’s Day 2013 whilst ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past‘ was in the works, director Bryan Singer jokingly tweeted that Lady Gaga had been cast in the role.

We’ll find out for sure when ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ opens in UK cinemas on 18 May.
