Imagine Dragons' latest hit "Believer" climbs to the top of Billboard & Clio's Top TV Commercials chart, powered by Shazam, for March, thanks to its appearance in Nintendo's "Switch" commercial.
Using tagging data from Shazam, as well as sales and streaming information tracked by Nielsen Music, Billboard partners with Clio Music each month to present a chart ranking the top songs in commercials. Rankings exclude any song that has recently charted within the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100.
The ad premiered on Feb. 1 during Fox's broadcast of Super Bowl LI, and it debuted on the chart at No. 2 in February behind Marian Hill's "Down," which falls off the March chart.
"Believer" leads all songs with 81,000 Shazam tags, 162,000 downloads sold and 35 million U.S. streams tallied during the month of March, according to Nielsen Music. The song has also been a smash hit on Billboard's rock charts dated April 22, tallying its fifth week atop the Hot Rock Songs chart, a fourth week atop the Alternative Songs chart, and a second week atop the Rock Airplay chart. It also reached No. 41 on the Hot 100 (chart dated March 25).
The track is the lead single off of Imagine Dragons' forthcoming third studio album, which does not yet have a release date.
Meanwhile, Joy Williams earns the highest debut on the chart this month as "Don't Let Me Down," her cover of The Chainsmokers' hit featuring Daya, opens at No. 2 on the ranking. Thanks to its appearance in State Farm's "Following" commercial, the spot earned 37,000 Shazam tags, 16,000 downloads sold and 647,000 U.S. streams in March.
The non-album track picked up a significant amount of traffic the commercial aired during CBS' telecast of the NCAA men's basketball tournament. The YouTube video of the ad has collected 7.5 million global views since its posting on March 13.
In an interview with Billboard, Williams said she was approached by State Farm to work on a song specifically for the commercial and, being a fan of the original Chainsmokers version, she and State Farm settled on covering the dance hit.
Elsewhere on the Top TV Commercials chart, The Monks debut at No. 13 with "Boys Are Boys And Girls Are Choice." The Germany-based garage rock group, who released one album during its run in the '60s, earns their debut thanks to Apple's iPhone 7 "Sticker Fight" commercial.
The ad garnered 9,000 Shazam tags, 1,000 downloads sold and 47,000 streams in March, according to Nielsen Music.
The Monks' appearance on the chart proves the massive influence of Apple's commercials. Outside of an appearance on Billboard's Spotify Rewind '60s chart (dated April 15), the band has never appeared on a Billboard chart - and had never leading up to the commercial's premiere date in early March.
"Boys" was featured on The Monks' sole studio album Blank Monk Time, which was released in 1966 through Polydor Records.
