Kanye West Trades Ego for Humility in 'Only One' Video

Humility is a word rarely associated with Kanye West — the guy who trashed a $350,000 Maybach in his “Otis” music video with Jay Z in 2012 — but he turns over a new leaf with “Only One.”

In the Spike Jonze-directed clip that premiered on Ellen Thursday, Kanye and his adorable 1-year-old daughter, North West, appear in footage shot more like candid home video than his usual big-budget productions.

The rainy-day set didn’t stop the happy duo from enjoying a walk outdoors. As Kanye sings lyrics written in the voice of his late mother speaking to him from heaven, he is seen holding hands with North as they walk through a field. The sweet child seems taken by the beauty of nature.

In one of the more precious scenes, North becomes fascinated by her father’s boots, and points to them. Kanye looks like a giant as he looks down in awe. In another shot, he sings the lyrics to her while holding her in his arms as she peacefully gazes off camera.

Kanye says marriage to Kim Kardashian and fatherhood have calmed him. “I’ve learned how to shut up more,” he told Ellen DeGeneres. “I think I’m a better human being because of [Kim] and my daughter.”

Kanye compared some of his famous rants to his daughter. “I think I was going through my version of my terrible twos,” he said. “My daughter she wants to express herself but she doesn’t have the words. For me, there’s so many things I want to do with film or with clothing, and I didn’t have the words or the resources or the backing.”

Kanye also revealed that he and Kim would like to have more children. “Yeah, we’re trying,” he told the talk show host, adding that he would have as many kids as his wife wants.

"Only One," which features Paul McCartney playing keyboards, will appear on a still-untitled forthcoming album. The song marks McCartney’s first top 40 entry in 25 years. His last track to crack the pop charts was 1989’s "My Brave Face."
