If Hillary Clinton Becomes President, She Wouldn’t Mind Appointing Obama To The Supreme Court
Hillary Clinton lit up like a Christmas tree Tuesday during a campaign event in Deocorah, Iowa when a voter asked if she’d appoint President Barack Obama to the Supreme Court if she win’s the White House.
Appearing genuinely shocked but delighted by the question, Clinton smiled, gasped a little and responded “Wow, what a great idea. No one has ever suggested that to me, I love that, wow.”
Clinton said the next president will have to appoint up to three Supreme Court Justices, but didn’t stay on that topic too long before singing Obama’s praises and reminding the crowd in order for Obama to become a Justice, Democratic voters have to do their part.
“I mean he’s brilliant, and he can set forth an argument, and he was a law professor, so he’s got all the credentials,” the presidential nominee said. “Now we do have to get a Democratic Senate to get him confirmed so you’re going to have to help me on that, OK?”
As Obama’s term comes to a close, the president hasn’t endorsed any candidate, nor has he made it clear what he plans to do once he leaves 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. During a 2014 interview with The New Yorker, Obama wasn’t sure if he’d take the job at the highest court in the land.
“I love the law, intellectually,” Obama said, “I love nutting out these problems, wrestling with these arguments. I love teaching. I miss the classroom and engaging with students. But I think being a Justice is a little bit too monastic for me. Particularly after having spent six years and what will be eight years in this bubble, I think I need to get outside a little bit more.”
Whatever Obama chooses to do post presidency, we’re cool with, but Justice Obama does have a nice ring to it.
