Hear It First: Bob Forrest Goes Solo With ‘Truth, Chaos & Beauty’

Singer/songwriter Bob Forrest, formerly the lead vocalist of ‘80s and ‘90s L.A. rock bands Thelonious Monster and the Bicycle Thief, is releasing his first official solo album, Survival Songs, October 9 via Six Degrees Records.

Yahoo Music is excited to premiere the track “Truth, Chaos & Beauty,” from the album to give a taste of his solo work.

‘“How I wrote the song is not tongue-in-cheek, but it is maybe ‘clever,’” Forrest notes of the tune. “There have been thousands of ‘Peace in the Valley’ songs, so I wanted to take that form and tweak it. What this song is really about is the journey of me. Ultimately, the message is not so different than the religious ‘Peace in the Valley’ songs of 200 years ago. Through addiction and my experiences, I’ve basically arrived back from a different direction at some of those same universal truths: There is no peace in the world, unless there is peace in your heart. Nothing is going to fix itself, unless there is peace in you. It’s essentially a 19th century song retooled for the 21st century.”

Fans of Forrest know he is also famous for appearing as a drug counselor on Celebrity Rehab. During his past struggles with addictions to cocaine, heroin, and alcohol, Forrest once almost killed himself onstage and infamously mangled the “Star Spangled Banner” so badly at a Clippers game he became a minor sports celebrity. After 24 attempts at rehab, Forrest finally got clean in 1996 – Eventually becoming a drug counselor and Dr. Drew Pinsky’s right hand man.
