After recruiting G.O.O.D. Music singer-dancer Teyana Taylor, VH1's The Breaks has added another star to their lineup with Emmy-nominated actress Gloria Reuben. Reuben (who has appeared on E.R., Mr Robot and Lincoln) has snagged the recurring role of Malthuas "Mattie" Taylor, a "powerful and polished" department head at a record label.
Inspired by Dan Charnas' book on the hip-hop business The Big Payback, the series follows three friends through their come-up in the hip-hop industry in New York City in 1990. The original TV film aired on VH1 in January and starred Mack Wilds, Wood Harris and Afton Williamson, who will all return to the series. Charnas, Seith Mann (Walking Dead), John J. Strauss, Bill Flanagan and Darren Goldberg will serve as executive producers.

"I'm very excited to be a part of The Breaks team at VH1!," Reuben says in a statement sent to Billboard. "Seith Mann and a very talented cast and crew have brought interesting and fun storytelling (not to mention a cool throwback style and look) to the project! And it's great fun to work side by side with my longtime friend Bill Flanagan."
The Breaks is slated to premiere in January 2017.
