So you want to enjoy electronic music, but the thought of staying up late in a smoke-filled room gives you social anxiety. Are you destined for a sad, half-filled dance experience? Not if Geotic has anything to do with it.
The ambient, introspective project is Los Angeles producer Will Wiesenfeld's dance-introvert revival. You may be familiar with his work as Baths, which isn't anything overwhelmingly in-your-face either, but Geotic is meant as a totally inward musical experience.
"So much of dance music is about partying and going out and having a really hardcore social experience," Wiesenfeld says in an emailed statement. "Dance music has never been that for me. So much of my experience listening to music is being by myself - at home or in my car."
"Nav" is Geotic's latest single, taken off his LP, Abysma, an album meant to act as a beautiful bit of the background, like a work of art that hangs on the wall or a cool, interesting rug that really ties the room together. The video for "Nav" depicts the project's humble sound in a strange series of performances as experienced by one curious man. Just like the music itself, it's weird and strangely beautiful.
Abysma is out on Ghostly International now. Check the "Nav" video below and go on a calm, breezy journey into your innermost self.
