Foo Fighters' fans outraged as they're turned away from show after last-minute introduction of controversial ticket clause

Hundreds of Foo Fighters’ fans were left fuming when they were turned away from the band’s one-off show in London last night after organisers introduced a controversial ticket clause at the last minute, it has been reported.

Fans of the American rockers have said that they weren’t allowed into the O2 Arena even though they had valid tickets.

It has been claimed that the show’s promoters opted to “change the rules” and scan people’s tickets for the name of the person who originally bought them, with that person needing to be present at the show and with valid ID.

This meant that anybody who bought their ticket through a third party site, or who attended in place of friends or family, were turned away.

The clause is slowly being introduced across ticketed events in a bid to prevent ticket touts, but Foo Fighters’ fans insisted that they had no idea.

One told The Mirror: “My husband and his brother are among hundreds of people being turned away from the Foo Fighters at the O2 right now. We bought the tickets from Viagogo months ago, and only received them last week.

“They were over £700, not including two days off work, train and a hotel and not to mention the huge disappointment. My husband says he’s seen hundreds being turned away.

“Apparently the promoter has only just decided to change the goalposts at the last minute and have ID checks on the tickets, so those that were sold on Viagigo like ours have the original name and Viagogo says they cant change names, and its not their fault.

“Where does this leave hundreds of devastated fans?”

Another said that her tickets had now gone to waste as her husband, who booked them, could no longer attend the show due to injury.

She said: “With numerous phone calls today to AXS, the O2, and the concert organisation, we came to no conclusion and at every avenue were told that we would not be able to gain entry to the concert as the purchaser of the tickets, my partner, couldn’t attend due to having recent toe surgery!

“We are £150 out of pocket after booking parking at the O2 as well as the ticket cost, and AXS are also refusing to refund, stating that the condition of the lead ticket holder having to attend the event was notified by a 10-second pop up window!

“We are so upset about missing out on this one-time concert in the UK, so are hundreds of others.”

A rep for event organisers SJM told Yahoo Celeb UK: “Fans that bought tickets through our official box offices had to agree that they were buying named tickets prior to purchase. This was not a ‘last minute’ decision but was clear from the outset.

“We did this to prevent tickets being re-sold at extortionate prices. The vast majority of fans understood and adhered to this.

“As event organisers of last night’s concert, we implemented a policy from onsale to limit secondary reselling of tickets. The only official outlets were the venue box office and SEE Tickets and all purchasers were clearly informed that ID checks would be in place on entry.”
