Fitz & The Tantrums' 'HandClap' Returns to No. 1 on Billboard & Clio's Top TV Commercials Chart

After topping the chart in May and June, Fitz and the Tantrums' "HandClap" returns to No. 1 on Billboard & Clio's Top TV Commercials chart for August.

Using tagging data from Shazam, as well as sales and streaming information tracked by Nielsen Music, Billboard partners with Clio Music each month to present a chart ranking the top songs in commercials. Rankings exclude any song that has recently charted within the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100.

A 'HandClap' for Fitz and the Tantrums, Now in the Hot Rock Songs Top 10

"HandClap," featured in FIAT's "Toy Car" ad, reached No. 1 on Top TV Commercials in May and June on the strength of its inclusion in FIAT's "Room With a View" ad, before falling off the chart in July, when it didn't tally enough points to make the chart. It returns at No. 1 after the "Toy Car" ad debuted. It reclaims the top spot with 68,000 Shazam tags, 44,000 downloads sold and 5.6 million U.S. streams in August, according to Nielsen Music.

Whitesnake's 1987 hair-band classic "Here I Go Again" debuts at No. 2 on Top TV Commercials. Featured in Walmart's "Own the First Day" back-to-school-themed ad, the commercial first hit TV screens in early August. The track was powered by 20,000 Shazam tags, 31,000 downloads sold and 2.9 million U.S. streams in August. The song also vaulted 14-2 on the Hard Rock Digital Songs chart dated Aug. 27, up a momentous 278 percent to 9,000 sold (in the sales tracking week ending Aug. 11). It held at No. 2 on the following sales tally, dated Sept. 3, with a 26 percent gain to 12,000 sold (in the week ending Aug. 18).

"HandClap" dethrones Empire of the Sun's "Walking on a Dream" (1-3), featured in Honda's "The Dreamer" ad. The song was No. 1 on Top TV Commercials each month from January through April and again in July.

Additionally, Avicii vs. Conrad Sewell's "Taste the Feeling" debuts at No. 4 on Top TV Commercials thanks to its synch in Coca-Cola's "Anthem" commercial. The track brought in 31,000 Shazam tags, 10,000 downloads sold and 633,000 U.S. streams in August.

The first three songs on the August Top TV Commercials chart were all big hits on Billboard charts prior to their commercial synchs. "HandClap" peaked at No. 5 on the Alternative Songs chart in July; "Here I Go Again" topped the Billboard Hot 100 dated Oct. 10, 1987; and "Walking on a Dream" peaked at No. 3 on Alternative Songs in April.
