Fans Have a Beef With Beyoncé's Vegan Announcement

Beyoncé fans set their alarms for the crack of dawn Monday to catch the diva's much-hyped interview for Good Morning America, during which she was supposed to make a very special, exclusive announcement. Whatever could it be? A new album? A new tour? A baby brother or sister for Blue Ivy?

Well, no. Instead, in a pre-taped, infomercial-like segment, Beyoncé discussed... the benefits of veganism and her new vegan meal delivery service.

Sure, she may have had a valuable message to deliver about fitness, health, and nutrition. But many fans were disappointed or even angered by the anticlimactic announcement, and they made their displeasure known on Twitter:

What irritated fans even more was the fact that Beyoncé's announcement wasn't even really news. Beyoncé and her husband, Jay Z, took a 22-day vegan challenge way back in 2013. And it was four months ago, in February, that Beyoncé and her trainer, Marco Borges, first revealed their new vegan meal delivery service, 22 Days Nutrition, which provides 100 percent plant-based menus.

However, for those actually interested in what Beyoncé had to say, the singer had plenty of inspiring words for would-be vegans. “I am not naturally the thinnest woman,” she said. “I have curves. I’m proud of my curves and have struggled since a young age with diets.” She added that finding a diet that worked and “actually keeps the weight off” has not been easy.

But the singer said she is happy since becoming a vegan. “I felt like my skin was really firm, a lot tighter than when I deprived myself of food and got the weight off fast and the weight stayed off."

Then again, 22 Days Nutrition does not guarantee weight loss. According to the Frequently Asked Questions section of the 22 Days Nutrition site, the emphasis is on being healthy and not counting calories. “If your focus is on eating clean, healthy plant-based meals, you will notice that you feel completely satisfied after a meal and that your body weight will return to a weight that is good for you,” the statement said. “This may mean losing weight, staying the same weight or in some cases gaining weight.”
