Sia Parodies Self, Recruits Kristen Wiig for 'Chandelier' Grammy Performance
Even though Sia prefers not to appear in her own music videos, it doesn’t mean she is not willing to poke fun at herself. And while the clips for her songs “Chandelier” and “Elastic Heart” were intense, she lightened things up for her Grammy performance.
Sia tapped former Saturday Night Live comedian Kristen Wiig for a hilarious parody of those videos. Considering the controversial theme of the video for “Elastic Heart,” which paired Shia LaBeouf in a racy dance sequence with 12-year-old Dance Moms star Maddie Zieger, viewers were likely expecting something similar when the number was performed at the Grammys.
But even before close-up shots revealed Wiig’s identity, something about the choreography was amiss. A minute after Wiig began flailing around, Ziegler joined the routine for a fun face-off. At one point, Wiig and Ziegler peeled off their costumes to reveal the same kind of skin-tone colored leotard costumes worn in the “Chandelier” and “Elastic Heart” videos.
Wiig received major props on Twitter:
LaBeouf himself introduced the performance by reading a thank-you letter from Sia.
"Chandelier" was one of the night’s biggest nominees, competing for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Music Video, but finished the evening 0-for-4.
