Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas: 10 Highlights From Day 3

Insomniac

Despite the confirmed death of an attendee the previous day, the show went on at Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) Las Vegas on Sunday, June 22.

Buzzing from the announcement of EDC Brazil earlier in the day, the world’s largest dance music festival finished strong with a star-studded lineup on another perilously hot Nevada night. Here are 10 highlights from day three.

Electric Daisy Carnival 2015: One Death Confirmed

2:30 pm: Before heading back to the festival, Billboard links up with Dillon Francis at the Encore Tower Suites to discuss his Las Vegas experience to date.

“I did gamble a lot of money last night and did not win anything,” said Francis. “I was playing roulette. I was running for 18 trying to hit it and it did not come… at all. And there were these girls standing by the table asking questions about how to play. And I’m trying to be nice, but after I tell them they keep standing by the plexiglass being like “It's gonna be 34! It's gonna be 11!” and I’m like “Can’t you just say it’s going to be 18? Or walk to another roulette table?” Oh my God I was so mad. And then I lost all my money so I was even madder.“

2:45 pm: Sounds like Dillon doesn’t have the best luck when it comes to gambling company.

"Oh god. I was playing roulette again, and this girl’s tit just kept coming out. And it wasn't a cool tit, it was not a welcome tit. I kept being like "Hey your boob’s out again. Can you please put it away?” and she would keep sliding her shirt up like “Oh my god,” and she wasn’t even looking at anyone when she was saying this. She was definitely in her own parallel universe and it would keep going on. Actually, I think I won that game.“

11:24 pm: Orjan Nilsen kicks off Sunday's trance takeover of the massive Circuit Grounds stage, whose ridiculous scale still remains the topic of bar front conversation despite two days of acclimation.

Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas: 10 Highlights From Day Two

11:54 pm: AC Slater’s Night Bass party brand has taken over 7UP’s Stage 7 on Sunday, bringing edgy G house and funky deeper cuts to the impressively adorned branded stage a stone’s throw from the sprawling Kinetic Field.

Birmingham native Chris Lorenzo works the decks with calm confidence, seamlessly mixing between dance floor-focused reworks of hip hop favorites like Driicky Graham’s "Snapbacks and Tattoos” and Afroman's "Crazy Rap.“

11:58 pm: A tiny illuminated figure beneath the Kinetic Stage’s overbearing owl eyes, Calvin Harris gives the swelling neon crowd all the hits they crave – from "Summer” and “Blame” to the ebullient sing along of “We Found Love.”

12:54 am: As onstage lights flare with his filter sweeps, Alesso launches into his classics – mixing from his collaboration with Sebastian Ingrosso, "Calling (Lose My Mind),“ into 2012's show-stopping remix of OneRepublic’s "If I Lose Myself." The Kinetic Field crowd shows its approval with widespread cheers.

"I wish you guys could see what I see right now because it’s unbelievable,” the Swedish star crows. "So many people together! Let’s do this EDC.“

1:19 am: Tiësto takes to the Kinetic Field stage to treat attendees to a special set. The Dutch veteran’s performance is heavier on house and harder-hitting than usual, mixing funky bass and shuffling hats with dissonant dubstep wubs.

The Musical Freedom boss drops "Secrets,” his popular collaboration with KSHMR, and grabs the mic. “Hello EDC!” he hollers as the audience roars to life.

4:24 am: Santa Barbara’s Seven Lions looms atop the Cosmic Meadow decks like a messiah figure ensconced in overwhelming white lights. The crowd convulses as he drops into “Don’t Leave,” his melodic four-to-the-floor number featuring wistful vocals from Ellie Goulding.

4:30 am: The Cosmic Meadow’s surprise guest turns out to be none other than star-crossed roulette player Dillon Francis. Francis opens with a slowed-down version of his and Jauz's joint remix of Major Lazer & DJ Snake‘s "Lean On” while green lasers and iridescent cubes comb the sky with light above him

5:09 am: Swedish super-duo Galantis drop their latest single “Peanut Butter Jelly” in a high-octane closing effort on the Kinetic Field.

Earlier in the night, Christian Karlsson explained the story behind the “left field” production’s quirky chorus.

“I wrote that lyric like ten years ago,” he said. “And I didn’t know how to put that in a real song. To say ‘Spread it like peanut butter jelly, do it like I owe you some money.’"

Asked about the inspiration, Karlsson broke into laughter.

“Life…” he replied. "Strip clubs.“
