The Eagles to Fly Again for Glenn Frey Tribute at Grammys

The remaining members of The Eagles will reunite for a musical tribute to Glenn Frey at next week’s Grammy Awards, The Recording Academy announced Wednesday.

Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, Timothy B. Schmit and Joe Walsh will be joined by Jackson Browne in a one-time-only special tribute to Frey, who died on Jan. 18.

“Glenn Frey’s untimely passing was a huge loss for the entire creative community,” Neil Portnow, President and CEO of The Recording Academy, said. “For more than 45 years, The Eagles have played a significant role in shaping our musical landscape. We are honored to welcome the band, along with Jackson Browne, to the Grammy stage in tribute to Glenn’s tremendous legacy.”

Frey was a six-time Grammy winner, including Record of the Year for the Eagles’ “Hotel California” in 1978 and, most recently, Best Pop Instrumental Performance for “I Dreamed There Was No War” in 2009.

“Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia,” a statement on the band’s website said at the time of his death.

Eagles manager Irving Azoff told TheWrap exclusively that medications Frey was taking for his rheumatoid arthritis contributed to his death.

“The colitis and pneumonia were side effects from all the meds,” he said. “He died from complications of ulcer and colitis after being treated with drugs for his rheumatoid arthritis which he had for over 15 years.”

The 58th Annual Grammy Awards will be broadcast live on Monday at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
