Drake Talks ‘Genuine Energy’ With Rihanna, Bromance With BFF Kanye West

What do you call it when two ex-lovers still have a smoldering, passionate, oftentimes-NSFW working relationship? According to Drake, the phrase is “genuine energy.” To coincide with his album VIEWS premiering on Apple Music last night, Drake spoke with DJ Zane Lowe.

As expected, the conversation turned to Rihanna, and their new post-“Work” collaboration “Too Good,” which appears on VIEWS. He described their chemistry as “genuine” a few times, leading to a scoff from Lowe and a knowing laugh from Drake.

“Genuine energy” might be the best code phrase for a reignited romance but Drake also spoke about his bromance with his Los Angeles neighbor, Kanye West, saying: “We live up the street from one another…I’ve been in my room and they’ve come in my room and been like ‘’Ye’s in the kitchen talking with your mom, he says he’s here to work [laughs].’”

Drake mentioned that collaborative music between himself and Kanye still has the potential to be released. He also chalked up Jay Z’s lackluster verse on “Pop Style” – really only two lines – to Kanye being excited about reuniting The Throne, Jay and ‘Ye’s collaborative moniker.

A bonus track on VIEWS is “Hotline Bling,” arguably 2015’s biggest song. The music video quickly achieved viral status thanks to Drake’s goofy dance moves and he told Lowe: “I don’t take myself too serious…I expected the reaction. I was praying for it.”
