Did Katy Perry Just Take a Dig at Taylor Swift With Her New Song Title?
UPDATE: Katy Perry’s managers at Direct Management Group confirm that this story is completely bogus.
Katy Perry appears to have stepped up her feud with Taylor Swift – by calling a new song “1984.”
The title refers to the year that Firework singer Katy was born, and is assumed to be a dig at Taylor, whose most recent album is called 1989 because that was her birth year.
Singers Katy and Taylor seemed to have been friends in the past, but hints of a rift emerged when Taylor spoke about her now-released song “Bad Blood,” which she said was about another female artist who she had fallen out with.

While not coming out and naming Katy, she said last year about a rival pop star: “She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me.
“And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational – you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it.”
Katy has appeared to hit back at the comments in the past, saying: “If somebody is trying to defame my character you’re going to hear about it.”

Katy has registered the song’s name on BMI but none of the lyrics have yet been heard.
Taylor’s “Bad Blood” video, which debuted at the Billboard Music Awards, recruited her celebrity pals including Lena Dunham, Selena Gomez, and Karlie Kloss to act out ninja fighting scenes.
