Glee star Cory Monteith's unexpected death on July 13th leaves a legion of Gleeks in mourning and the show's future up in the air. Here, we celebrate his life with a few of his most memorable performances on Glee.
"Can't Fight This Feeling," REO Speedwagon
Monteith literally made a splash in the Glee pilot when his character, Finn Hudson, sang this 1980s power ballad in the locker room shower and glee club coach Will Schuester overheard it. The discovery prompts Finn to join New Directions – and the rest, as they say, is TV history.
"Don't Stop Believin,'" Journey
This is the song that started it all. The whole Glee phenomenon took off because of those bright-eyed, bouncy dah-dah-dahs and gave viewers the first taste of the beloved couple that would be called Finnchel (a mash-up of Finn and Rachel, played by real-life girlfriend Lea Michele).
"Losing My Religion," R.E.M.
Season Two saw a lot of Glee characters struggle and change, including Finn, who believed he saw Jesus in a grilled cheese (a/k/a "Grilled Cheesus"). Still reeling from his breakup with Quinn (Dianna Agron), facing alienation from his beloved football team and coming to terms with his soon-to-be stepbrother Kurt (Chris Colfer) coming out, Finn turned to this R.E.M. song for guidance.
"Just the Way You Are," Bruno Mars
Season Two of the show focused a lot on Kurt Hummel's struggle with being gay in small-town USA, a fact that soon-to-be stepbrother Finn couldn't quite accept. At their parents' wedding, though, Finn asked Kurt to dance with him during "Just the Way You Are" as a touching apology for the way he had lashed out.
"Man in the Mirror," Michael Jackson
In Season Three, the glee club finally won Nationals, the coveted brass ring of singing competitions that the group of misfits had been reaching for since Season One. The dapper boys of Glee helped secure the big win with this spot-on tribute to Michael Jackson.
"We've Got Tonite," Bob Seger
In the Valentine's Day-themed episode in Season Four, glee club coach Will Schuester and guidance counselor Emma were set to tie the knot, but didn't. However, Finn and Rachel, who experienced a roller-coaster romance, rekindled their relationship with the help of this duet.
