A portable beverage since it was first brewed, coffee embraces an on-the-go lifestyle as well as anything. However, there are still a few steps which stand between an eventual coffee drinker and actually porting their prized java wherever they please. Knowing this, a team of engineers from Western New England University developed the ultimate portable coffee device dubbed the AnyCafe Travel Brewer and recently launched it via Kickstarter. A travel mug capable of brewing its own coffee, the AnyCafe Travel Brewer is essentially like toting a pint-sized Keurig machine everywhere you go.
Looking no different than a typical travel mug on the outside, the AnyCafe brewer boasts an impressively engineered interior. While it features a reservoir for holding water — and eventually brewed coffee — the mug lid is where the magic truly happens. Featuring a compartment capable of holding any standard K-Cup pod, the top of the AnyCafe houses what the creators call the Continuous Brewing Method. In essence, the lid is outfitted with a miniature coffee brewer capable of extracting and heating up the coffee from a K-Cup pod in a matter of minutes after an owner activates the brewer via a button on the front of the device.
“Coffee is already an integral part of our lives, but now it can be with you for every journey and adventure, even if it is just your morning commute,” read the campaign’s Kickstarter page. “Our unique brewing method gets more flavor out of your favorite coffee pods and is whisper silent. It also allows for easy reheating, so you never have to worry about cold coffee or tea again!”
Outside of simply brewing up a quick mug of coffee, the AnyCafe also features the ability to reheat liquid already in the mug, meaning owners will not have to resort to taking a sip of lukewarm java. Additionally, the device does not stop at just brewing coffee as the device can also brew tea from tea bags — the creators say they hope to incorporate the ability to brew loose grounds and tea leaves sometime in the future.
As of this writing, the AnyCafe Travel Brewer had already raised more than $10,000 to its fundraising goal of $75,000 with 33 days left in the campaign. Available to early adopters for $49 — roughly $26 off its expected retail price — the AnyCafe comes in either a standard black, Cornflower Blue, Racing Green, Seville Orange, Cardinal Red, or Tyrian Purple.
