The Chainsmokers Are First Act This Year to Top Dance/Electronic Songs & Albums Charts Simultaneously

Billboard

The Chainsmokers' EP Collage launches at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart (dated Nov. 26) with 9,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen Music. It's the first leader for the DJ duo of Drew Taggert and Alex Pall, whose only prior EP, Bouquet, reached No. 2 on Jan. 30.

Collage, which opens with the strongest first-week sales of any EP on the chart in 2016, contains one previously unreleased song, "Setting Fires" (featuring XYLO), which starts at No. 8 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs (marking the pair's fifth top 10), sporting  24,000 downloads sold and 4.2 million U.S. streams. Those figures are also good for debuts at No. 3 on Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales and at No. 8 on Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs.

Meanwhile, as The Chainsmokers' "Closer" (featuring Halsey) tops Hot Dance/Electronic Songs for a 13th week, the duo is the first to lead the genre's main songs and albums charts simultaneously in more than year, since Major Lazer ruled with Peace Is the Mission and the set's "Lean On" (with DJ Snake and featuring MO) on Nov. 14, 2015.

KUNGS IS COOKIN': Also new to Top Dance/Electronic Albums is the debut set from Kungs (aka Valentin Brunel), Layers (No. 4, 1,000 copies sold). The French DJ/producer's collaboration with Cookin' on 3 Burners, "This Girl," spent seven weeks peaking at No. 7 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs in September-October. Another Layers track, "I Feel So Bad," featuring Ephemerals, reached No. 36 on that chart two weeks ago.

WATERS' 10TH: On Dance Club Songs, Crystal Waters wades to her 10th No. 1 "Believe," featuring DJs Sted-E (Edward Alcivar) and Hybrid Heights (Carlos Rosillo) (3-1). Remixes from the likes of StoneBridge, Paige and Kilo Shuhaibar helped the trio achieve its second straight collaborative leader (and second total for the DJs), following "Synergy" a year ago.

Waters, who first reigned with 1991's "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)," tells Billboard, "I'm so happy right now … 10 No. 1s, I can't believe it! I love dance music and the entire dance community; so happy to be a part of it."

'LOSE' IS WINNING: Veering over to Dance/Mix Show Airplay, Vassy vaults into the top 10 with "Nothing to Lose" (12-10). The Tiesto production is the first solo hit for Greek-Australian vocalist Vassy, who previously scored top 10s with "Bad" (by David Guetta and Showtek featuring Vassy; No. 7, 2014) and "Secrets" (Tiesto and KSHMR featuring Vassy; No. 9, 2015).
