Death Row Records founder Suge Knight remains on the path to recovery after being shot five times Sunday morning at a pre-MTV Video Music Awards party in West Hollywood hosted by Chris Brown.
Knight was one of three people wounded in the attack outside the 1OAK nightclub on the famed Sunset Strip. A 33-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were also hit and treated at a local hospital. The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department tell Yahoo there is no known suspect or motive at this point as detectives continue to investigate the incident.
Knight, a pioneer of gangster rap and the man riding with Tupac Shakur when the latter was gunned down in a 1996 Las Vegas driveby, is taking some time to heal, his family said in a statement posted on his Twitter page:
The family of Suge Knight ask that you keep Suge in your prayers and to stray away from the negativity portrayed by the media," ..— Suge Knight (@sugeknight) August 25, 2014
the statement reads. "Suge is currently resting and has lost a lot of blood, he's human. He's done a lot of things for the community and— Suge Knight (@sugeknight) August 25, 2014

While authorities did not identify the victims, TMZ reports the injured 19-year-old woman is fashion model Megan Hawkins.
Brown's camp, meanwhile, is distancing the singer from the attack. "Chris hosted an event in Los Angeles last night to celebrate the upcoming release of his album, X, during which an incident occurred," his publicist said in a statement. "This incident did not involve Chris; he was merely the host of the event. He has and will continue to cooperate with the investigation."
After the melee, Brown took to Twitter to address the situation: "It's disappointing that we as a society can't have fun or enjoy ourselves without any altercations sometimes. Miss me with the bullsh-t!!!."
