Lady Got Back at the 2013 VMAs

Stop The Presses!

When news broke that Lady Gaga would be opening the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, people wondered just what she'd do to top previous VMA appearances, which have included her dangling from bloody meat-hook chandeliers, wearing actual meat, and wearing Danny Zuko-esque male drag.

The answer? She gave her fans the many faces of Gaga. And…also the backside of Gaga.

Gaga's much-anticipated comeback — her first televised performance of "Applause" — started with her looking like the Flying Nun, surprisingly covered up by VMA standards (and by Gaga standards). A round of canned boos — a nod to her many critics — accompanied her entrance, but the real audience was soon gasping when, after a series of costume changes that paid tribute to her past awards-show looks, she ended her performance in the barely-there Venus seashell outfit from her "Applause" video, wearing little more than a teensy, tiny thong. Gaga was definitely back — pun intended.
