Kanye West knows how to make a statement. Often criticized for his long-winded rants that bash the music industry or tout his own artistic prowess, West kept things short and sweet, taking to Twitter on Thursday morning for a brief but powerful announcement.
"June Eighteen" is all he wrote. What's more, it's the only Tweet his 9.5 million followers can see, since he deleted all the other Tweets from his Twitter account a few months ago.
Whether June 18 is the release date for his new album (which is reportedly complete), the first single from the new album, the due date of his first child with babymama Kim Kardashian, or something else altogether, we can't say. What we can say is that there will be no end to the speculation, until West decides to reveal more details.
Not surprisingly, West's Tweet was retweeted more than 24,000 times in the first few hours it appeared.
It has been nearly three years since West released his last album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, in 2010, so fans and the industry are chomping at the bit for more music. He may deliver soon, given this announcement and the fact that he's scheduled to perform on the season finale of "Saturday Night Live" on May 18.
