Avid "X Factor" viewers may remember James Kenney from the series' first U.S. season (or even from his multiple appearances on Yahoo! Music's reality chat show, "The Day After"). Although his first audition was frustratingly never shown, James did make it to all the way to the top 32 Judges' Houses round, where he impressed with his intense, soulful cover of Rihanna's "Russian Roulette."
Sadly, James was cut by his misguided mentor, Nicole Scherzinger. But he's giving it another go for "The X Factor" Season 3, and maybe the judges who've since joined the show — Demi Lovato, Kelly Rowland, and Paulina Rubio — will give him a much-deserved shot and a spot in the Over-25's.
James, with his wife and two young daughters in tow, tried out again at the "X Factor" Season 3 auditions, which taped in Los Angeles on July 11. Simon Cowell recognized James (who quipped, "I couldn't stay away, I had separation anxiety") and praised James's unique rendition of the Porgy & Bess classic "Summertime"…but you'll have to wait until "The X Factor" Season 3 premieres this September to find out if Simon and his fellow panelists put James through. Let's hope this time, James's audition actually airs.
James is not the first familiar "X Factor" face to re-audition in Season 3. Panda Ross, a fan favorite from last year, also recently returned, showing up at the New Orleans tryouts in June.
While we're all waiting for "The X Factor" Season 3 to start, check out a couple of James's guest spots on "The Day After," for his own unique perspective on the competition:
