It-musician Claire Boucher, a.k.a. Grimes, has recently released designed a capsule collection for Saint Laurent Paris in collaboration with the label's Creative Director and photographer Hedi Slimane. The short series of mens t-shirts featuring serpentine birds and trippy tribal masks were inspired by Yves Saint Laurent's original 70s "love posters" and a few re-purposed drawings that Boucher had previously sent to Slimane for a Vogue Japan editorial.
According to Vibe, Boucher met Slimane when he shot her for the cover of Dazed & Confused magazine last April. The two got along swimmingly and Boucher was invited to create her own collection for the label. As you can see from the t-shirts, she's pretty good at illustrating as well! But what about full-on fashion design? Boucher exclaimed, "Hell Ya! But probably not until I'm at least 2 more albums in. I kind of want to make a line of chainmail in the short term though." Do it girl, into it.
Hedi Slimane has a history of selecting mostly up-and-coming musicians to participate in the re-vamp of the iconic Yves Saint Laurent fashion house (renamed Saint Laurent Paris), since taking over creative direction. Former Girls frontman Christopher Owens was the face of Slimane's evocative debut campaign for the high-end brand, and the ever evolving Beck was selected to front the label's SS13 campaign. Other musicians include Citizens! frontman Tom Burke and singer Sky Ferreira. Musicians over models? We like!
As much as we love Grimes, Hedi, and Saint Laurent, with the shirts priced at $320 and $350, our love for eating ultimately wins out. A 99-cent Grimes mp3 will have to suffice for now.
