Green Day resorted to comical measures to announce joining the performance lineup for the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.

In a new promo video released exclusively to Yahoo! Music, the Grammy Award-winning rock trio's rehearsal gets interrupted by VMAs host Kevin Hart, who barges in, insisting that he's now in the group.

Kevin Hart crashes Green Day VMAs rehearsal.

"What are you doing, we're in the middle of rehearsal, man?" Billie Joe Armstrong asks as Hart makes his entrance, donning the band's signature skinny tie look and dragging a heavy instrument case. "What does it look like I'm doing, I'm joining the band," Hart replies, opening the case to reveal his golden tuba.

Hart's hostile takeover comes with demands. "Guys, couple changes," he says. "Title on that drum has got to change. We're not going with Green Day anymore. Black Day.Or we can go with Half Past Midnight. Up to you guys. I just think it should be a little darker."

A frustrated and intolerant Tre Cool slams the comedian, star of movie Think Like A Man, demanding, "Who the hell are you?"

Hart argues with Tre Cool.

But Hart isn't deterred and quips, "That type of attitude is going to bring us down. You want that? 'Cause I don't. "

The one-minute spot wraps with Hart struggling to lift and play the tuba, an effort he admittedly describes as horrible.

Last week, MTV released a promo video with Hart staging a similar intrusion on celeb "It" couple Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.

In addition to joining previously announced Video Music Awards performers Alicia Keys, One Direction and P!nk, Green Day will debut its new music video for "Oh Love" Wednesday at 7:49 p.m. ET on MTV. Following the premiere, the band will conduct a 30-minute interview with Sway Calloway for MTV First: Green Day.

"Oh Love" is the first single from Green Day's forthcoming trilogy, Green Day ¡Uno!, Green Day ¡Dos!, Green Day ¡Tre!, that will be released on September 25, November 13 and January 13, 2013, respectively.

The VMAs air on MTV Thursday, September 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
