There's no denying that Keith Richards is a rock icon whose guitar technique has been admired and mimicked for decades. But does the Rolling Stones guitarist deserve to be named a style icon?

According to Vanity Fair, which just published its annual International Best-Dressed List, he sure does.

Richards, who's pictured in the magazine wearing a long black trench coat, his trademark fedora and silver skull ring, a patterned scarf, and bright green sneakers, definitely makes the eclectic mish-mosh style work. Vanity Fair named him a style "original," and according to a spokesperson at the magazine, it's due in large part to the fact that he has his "own unique style that's a little bit avant-garde and out there."

It's the first time Richards has made the list, which also includes Justin Timberlake and Beyoncé. Another style icon, Johnny Depp, has said that Richards has greatly inspired him and that the look and sound of his famed pirate character, Jack Sparrow of Pirates of the Caribbean, was influenced by his Rolling Stones pal. Speaking to, Depp said that Richards was "the coolest rock and roll star of all time…hands down."

Richards's style has certainly evolved over the years, from fabulous tailored suits adorned with furry jackets to something a bit more bohemian and comfortable. He's often pictured with a cigarette in hand and a bandana around his head, and is almost never seen without his silver skull ring. One thing's for sure — the guy definitely knows how to accessorize!

As for Richards himself, he seems pretty confident that he deserves such a distinction. When asked if he has a style icon of his own, he responded, "Why should I? I am one."
